7 Social Media Analytics Companies To Keep An Eye On

http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/WeBuildPages/~3/vXMK3nTFMAA/

Social media continues to grow and adapt into a more exciting technology than ever before. While it was once a purely personal platform, the business and marketing applications are ace. Now we have entire degrees dedicated to the practice, and firms popping up all over the world promising to help brands expand on and off the web.

While many offer tools to allow you to measure your own analytics, others handle everything for you. In any case, a business can improve their visibility, leads, conversions, and evangelism with the right social media analytics company.

What is a social media analytics company?

Social media analytics companies use social media API data for easier reporting, monitoring, trend tracking and competitor analysis. Social media analytics aims at helping you estimate your social media ROI (return on investment) and improve your key performance indicators (KPIs).

Here are some great ones to keep an eye on this year.

1. Sprout Social

SproutSocial Social Media Analytics

SproutSocial Social Media Analytics

Sprout Social has been continuously praised by users and tech review sites as being one of the best on the market today. This is usually a reference to their various social media analytics tools, which include an impressive list of free ones. They cover multiple social networks, such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Linked, and monitor traffic sources.

With the recent acquisition of another social media analytics company Simply Measured, the suite has become even better.

Pricing starts at $99 a month

2. SumAll

SumAll Social Media Analytics

SumAll Social Media Analytics

SumAll is an all-in-one social monitoring tool that has two options: free, or a $99 paid plan. On the free side you have smart tweets, desktop view, and unlimited profiles for both. You also get actionable analytics tool and weekly report to help you grow your social efforts. It looks like they have canceled their paid plan which is both awesome and surprising.

They have pretty good support, so you never have to worry about your emails or calls going unanswered.

Pricing: Free

3. Brandwatch

Brandwatch Social Media Analytics

Brandwatch Social Media Analytics

Social listening is an important skill, but it isn’t one many companies have mastered. Which is why they turn to Brandwatch. This firm will help brands to not only hear the conversation happening around them, but understand and utilize it for their advantage.

They have two products to choose from: Analytics and Vizia. The first is basic social reporting and monitoring like you would expect. The second is a complete social command center with advanced features to get the most out of your data.

They feature three plans on their website with zero info on actual pricing which is somewhat confusing. You need to request a demo to find out the rates.

From third-party reviews I was able to find that they start at $800 per month

4. TalkWalker

TalkWalker social media analytics company

Talkwalker provides centralized social media analytics dashboard offering you graphs and analysis for:

  • Hashtag and campaign tracking including shares, reach, engagement, mentions
  • Sentiment analysis
  • Image recognition to help you protect your trademark & reputation
  • Google Analytics integration for social media ROI estimation
  • Virality that monitors how your content spreads across the web
  • Influencer marketing helping you identify industry influencers and (future) brand ambassadors

Pricing starts at $9,600 per year with more advanced package pricing available only on request.

5. Finteza

Finteza Social Media Analytics

Finteza Social Media Analytics

Finteza is the free on-site analytics platforms with an array of possibilities including analysis of your social media traffic. This is not purely social media analytics company but I firmly believe that nothing will provide you with more actionable insight than your own site visitors.

Finteza is quite easy to set up. It will start collecting and showing the data the moment you install the tracking code. It’s an independent company that allows you to manage ads and create conversion funnels. To read more on some social media traffic analysis it provides, read here.

Pricing: Free

6. Social Bakers

Socialbakers Social Media Analytics

Socialbakers Social Media Analytics

This is analytics company that offer multiple solutions for brands that need something more than basic analytics. Social Bakers core platform handles monitoring, engagement, competitive and industry benchmarking, competitive analysis and more, customized to meet the specific needs of companies that are based on sales. This is unique to many other platforms that could also be used for non-sales brands, such as blogs.

Its AI-powered algorithm monitors your social media audience and turns it into personas which you can better relate to and thus effectively target.

Pricing starts at $240 monthly

7. Awario

Awario Social Media Analytics

Awario Social Media Analytics

Awario is a social tool that operates within four categories: brand management, conversation management, profile management, topic monitoring, and lead generation. This gives an intensive approach to data gathering and implementation that attacks the problem of a weak campaign from all angles.

Awario includes a solid sentiment analysis feature that allows you to filter your brand mentions for negative, positive, and neutral sentiment. You can use this information to effectively delegate customer relationship-building based on how happy (or unhappy) your customers are.

They offer a free trial, and their pricing starts at $29 per month

Bonus: Cyfe

Cyfe social media analytics feature

Cyfe is not a social media amalytics platform, per se, but they can combine a lot of API data for easier monitoring and analysis. It is my personally favorite tool for collecting and archiving all sorts of social media stats and trends. It supports all kinds of sources including Instagram, Youtube, Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus. You can connect it to your Google Analytics to monitor correlations and keep an eye on your social media campaign effectiveness.

It’s a huge time-saver, especially if you manage clients and need to monitor dizens of accounts within one network. Unlike many social platforms, it gives you a fair amount of features and perks without having to spend a dime.

Keep An Eye Out For These Guys!

These social media analytics companies are sure to grow in the future. As they do, you will have plenty to take advantage of as a user, in order to grow your own brand’s visibility and engagement.

Anyone you think should be on the list? Let us know in the comments.

Reader Q&A: What Are The Most Profitable Niches For Affiliate Marketing? [Updated]

https://nichehacks.com/profitable-niches-for-affiliate-marketing/

I received an email from a reader named John asking a fairly common question.

So instead of just replying to him personally (which I did as well) I’ve decided to write the answer up as a post so anyone reading can benefit.

John asked “What Are The Most Profitable Niches For Affiliate Marketing?”

It’s one of those questions that is kind of tricky to answer as almost any niche that has a lot of buyers and affiliate products to sell can be insanely profitable if done correctly.

However we will look at 3 different ‘niche types’ in this post which are VERY profitable for affiliate marketing purposes…

Here’s What You’ll Learn:

  • The 3 main evergreen markets that are always profitable so you never waste your time on unprofitable affiliate niches.
  • Why passion and hobby based niches make such great niches.
  • High payout niches that pay you up to $5,000 commission and have low refund rates.
  • Why promoting high end offers is no more hard work than promoting a $7 ebook and yet brings in much more profit.

Get Laid, Paid & Live Forever?

If you’re ever wondering if a niche that’s not listed here is profitable just ask yourself this question…

“Is this niche about someone getting laid, paid or trying to live forever?”

What do I mean by that?

Basically, the most lucrative markets that are evergreen and always profitable are ones involving dating / romance / relationships (laid), wealth / money / jobs / finance (paid) or health / fitness / illness (living forever).

Why?

Because that’s something that EVERY ONE on the planet wants, including you and me.

So if it falls into the laid, paid or live forever category you can bet it’s profitable.

I expand on how to use this ‘Laid, Paid, & Live Forever Strategy’ to finding a niche (as well as a lot lot more) exclusively with NicheHacks Insider members here.

To discover 200+ profitable niche markets click the image below now…

 1. The Big and Always Profitable Evergreen Markets: Health, Wealth and Romance

These markets are evergreen and profitable and forever will be.

The health market includes niches such as diets and weight loss, embarrassing problems, quit smoking and medical issues to name but a few.

EuroMonitor report that the health and wellness industry will be worth $1 trillion globally in 2017.

We found out the Nootropics industry (smart drugs for brain function) was worth over $1 trillion too.

And Diabetes.org report that over $322 billion is spent in America on it every year.

Meaning there’s a lot of money around for the taking, if you’re willing to help these people get fit and healthy.

See these niche ‘hacks’ on the paleo diet and this “ugly” niche  to get some ideas.

There’s also over 50+ Profitable Niche Reports just in the health market (and 150+ more on other topics) exclusively available to ‘NicheHacks Insider’ members.

Reasons To Get Involved In Health Niches

  • Products and information can cost up to hundreds of dollars and some even cost thousands and up (think treadmills and machines).
  • This is a market that has many niches with passionate people who put health first so you can expect big spenders.
  • Many health niches are ongoing, so that means repeat purchases are going to be made.

Now let’s look at the MONEY niches…

Wealth Niches

Wealth covers internet marketing, Forex, gambling, lottery, jobs and employment, affiliate marketing, multi level marketing, business opportunities and more.

The online business industry in the UK alone is worth £100bn according to The Guardian, that’s twice as large as the hotel and restaurant industry.

Then the gambling industry is worth over $35.5 billion US dollars according to StatisticsBrain.

And the Forex industry trades over $5.1 trillion per day according to Wiki.

Are you beginning to see how lucrative some of these can be?

If you’re interested in more wealth niches or advanced information on the ones listed here there’s over 30+ in-depth Profitable Niche Reports on wealth niches (finance, investment, online business, marketing, gambling etc) available inside ‘NicheHacks Insider’ which you can join here.

There are lots of good reasons to get into these niches which I’ll cover in just a second…

Wealth Affiliate Programs

  • BitBond (50% commissions, 90-day cookies)
  • Linkconnector ($2.00 Lead, and $100.00 Sale commissions, 45-day cookies)

Reasons To Get Involved In Wealth Niches

  • Many wealth niches require people to spend money and products / information can range anywhere from a couple bucks to hundreds and even thousands of dollars.
  • People are always looking for ways to make money so they will not stop looking, which means ongoing success for you as a marketer.
  • Many of the wealth niches are expensive and need ongoing purchases as people can be obsessed with getting the most up to date and complete information.

And the romance niches are also a good choice which we’re about to uncover below…

Romance & Dating Niches

Romance obviously refers to online dating, attracting members of the opposite sex, pick up, finding a husband / wife, getting your ex back and many more.

StasticsBrain reports that 49,250,00 people in the USA alone have tried online dating, showing the huge demand.

Marriage Counselling costs up yo $200 an hour on average according to SelfGrowth, which shows just how lucrative it is.

And Neil Strauss sold 2,5 million copies of his “pick up artist” book The Game and he’s just one of thousands of well known “pick up artists” and writers on the subject.

Does this show you how popular and lucrative these niches can be?

If you want to discover more dating niches and get in-depth research on them you should take a look at ‘NicheHacks Insider’ where there are 30+ dating and relationship niche reports available.

Just take some of these other niches for example…

  • Plenty of other websites in this market so limitless connections to influencers and traffic for you.

Want more?

Then check out these niches…

2. Hobby and Activities That People Spend Loads of Money In

Hobbies and activities are also stupidly profitable if you target the ones where the customers have a lot of money to spend on their passion.

When something makes someone feel happy or gives them pleasure they will spend money on it over and over again.

Hobbies, sports, travel and other activities fit into this category perfectly.

Think of expensive activities like golf, sailing, fishing, travel, hunting.

And expensive holidays and travel like cruises, safaris, round the world trip.

Some interesting statistics for you…

Forbes.com report the Golf industry alone is worth $70 billion.

And $22.9+ billion a year is spent on hunting according to HuntingBusinessMarketing.

Both are dwarfed by the online travel booking industry which has online booking revenues of $498bn according to StatisticBrain.

People are forever buying new equipment, tools and gear for their passions.

They need accessories, they are willing to pay for training and guides or things that promise to make them even better at their activity of choice.

They will spend, spend, spend if it makes them feel good and happy.

Endless sub-niches to be explored and no shortage of both digital and physical products available to promote as an affiliate.

Which is why hobby and activities are crazily profitable.

If you’d like to dominate any general interest or hobby niches then there are 50+ in-depth profitable niche reports available on everything from golf to pole dancing to whisky to DIY Jewlery to Numerolgy and beyond inside ‘NicheHacks Insider’ which you can check out here.

Do you see the potential for you to get involved?

Then keep reading for more ideas…

It might surprise you but the Woodworking niche is VERY profitable

Examples Of Hobby Niches

Hobby Affiliate Programs

  • Levenhuk (Telescopes, 20% commissions)
  • MakerBot (3D Printing, 8% commissions)
  • Agoda (10% commissions)

Need proof that some of these weirder hobby niches like Woodwork, Survival and Steampunk are profitable too?

Here it is….

Woodworking

Teds Woodworking (Monthly Woodworking Plans) has consistently been one of the top selling products on Clickbank for years.

CBEngine say it’s the #1 selling product in the Home & Garden category for the past 5 years.

Stats from CBEngine showing how popular this product is

Stats from CBEngine showing how popular this product is

Survivalist

We discussed how SurvivalLife.com does over $1 million dollar in sales EVERY month here.

And there’s 347 products on Clickbank in the Survival niche alone…

There's endless products in the Survival Niche

There’s endless products in the Survival Niche

Showing there’s a HIGH demand for products in the niche.

That doesn’t count the other 240,000+ on Amazon.

Steampunk

A weird one yet totally popular as we found out here.

And just look at how many products the niche has on Amazon…

steampunk

Yep, that’s over 200,000 products just on Amazon for this weird niche.

And these products sell too,  you can tell by the volume of reviews on Amazon.

And there are more lucrative niches covered below…

niche ideas

3. High Paying Affiliate Products and Services That Pay Up To $5,000

This includes pay day (and most other type of) loans, private jet charter, yacht rental, online casinos, luxury goods such as watches, handbags and jewelry, travel, home design blueprints and an almost endless list of others.

It takes just as much time and effort to promote a $7 eBook as it does a luxury yacht program or private jet charter that pays hundreds to thousands of dollars in commission per sale

And you don’t need to make many sales to make a serious profit.

The refund rate on high end products is much lower than on $7 eBooks too.

People don’t make rash decisions when spending thousands so if they buy something they usually plan to see the purchase through.

People who buy high end goods don’t have money problems so they’ve no problem spending their cash on luxuries.

These are recession proof niches.

Consider watches and jewelry…

There are over 1.2 billion watched sold annually according to StasticBrain.

If you could sell to just 0.1% of that audience, how would that be?

Or payday loans…

The payday loan niche is reported to be worth over 2.2 billion.

That’s just in the UK alone and doesn’t factor in the USA or Global costs, it will be even higher.

With products like pay day loans there’s no shortage of people needing money and those who borrow once are likely to do so again.

If you’re bad with money you’re likely forever bad with money.

People who are bad with money tend to forever be bad with money so they always need help.

Are you seeing the potential here to help them and make money for yourself?

And remember, as we discussed earlier…

The gambling industry is worth over $35.5 billion US dollars according to StatisticsBrain.

Gamblers rarely quit so they’ll be back time and time again to hunt out the new ‘lucky’ casino and grab that new bonus.

And with many casinos paying affiliates a percentage of a players life time losses you continue to get paid month after month.

And look at this interesting niche…

With the home design blueprints (http://www.homeplans.com/ sell PDFs for $1,000+) you’re targeting a luxury niche as only the seriously rich can afford to build a custom house from scratch.

If you’d prefer to follow money over passion then definitely pick a niche that fits into one of the criteria above.

All have endless customers, are high ticket, and are hugely lucrative.

For ‘NicheHacks Insider’ members there is access to dozens of luxury / high ticket niche reports from luxury travel and expensive hobbies niches.

High Paying Affiliate Programs

  • Zoara (8% Commission and 2% Sales)

(RELATED: Want to learn how to make income with affiliate marketing? Then check out NicheHacks Insider)

Example Niches

Online Poker is lucrative

Online Poker is lucrative

Take Action And Pick Your Niche

All of these major markets have near endless sub-niches to be explored and are definitely VERY profitable because people are desperate for solutions to their problems and willing to pay for them.

Most of the consumers are looking for a ‘magic bullet’ (or magic pill in the case of weight loss) and aren’t really willing to put the effort into losing weight for example.

And still for those who are serious about trying not every product will be a good fit for them.

Meaning, either way, they’ll try multiple products before finding the right one.

So they will buy products over and over again from you.

There’s no end of affiliate products to promote both digital and physical either in many of these niches.

So definitely highly profitable as I’m sure you can see.

You could start a blog, create an affiliate site, start an email list or any number of other business models.

To discover all the different online business models, 200+ niches, all the necessary marketing lessons and step by step execution plans to complete the essential marketing tasks join ‘NicheHacks Insider’.

Before you go let’s wrap things up below…

(RELATED: Discover how to find the most lucrative affiliate products on the net with NicheHacks Insider)

Conclusion

The big evergreen niches of health, wealth and romance will never be out of demand.

People ALWAYS have problems they want solved and rather than work hard at it they’d prefer to buy a product and hope it performs magic for them.

People will never give up things that make them happy so hobby and activities are always going to be around and there’s always some new equipment or gear to buy that promises to make them better.

You’ll forever have both rich people who have an endless amount of money to spend on high end goods and poor people who are constantly seeking money who turn to loan companies and gambling.

So whilst there’s no 1 niche that is the ‘most profitable’ for affiliate marketing (or any other) purposes if you want to get involved in big money niches then pick one of these three niche types.

Just don’t forget the most lucrative niches that are ALWAYS in demand are the ones that fall into the…

‘Laid, paid and live forever’ categories (relationships, money, health).

So if you’re ever wondering whether a niche is profitable just ask yourself if your idea fits into any of those categories.

Hope that answers your question John. Here’s to getting laid, paid and living forever!

3 Ways to Create an Effective Content Brainstorming Dashboard

http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/WeBuildPages/~3/Gyi7sIZvZCA/

I am a huge believer in content. Providing great trendy content is by the most reliable and efficient way to market your site. No wonder many Internet marketing companies are switching to various content marketing services.

However producing great content on a regular basis may be overwhelming (and as many people believe, impossible). Coming up with new and new great and popular article ideas is something we are all struggling with. Therefore organizing and streamlining your brainstorming process is so important.

I have come up with three efficient ways to create a content brainstorming dashboard (feel free to try them and stick to any or all):

Content Brainstorming Dashboard #1: Keyword Dashboard

I am not going to lie: My major source of inspiration is keyword research. Maybe it’s because of an SEO background but I have yet to find a more effective content inspiration source than the actual search queries.

There are lots of tools to research keywords we listed previously: Simply run all / any of them and create a unified spreadsheet to copy-paste everything into one document.

So how to use this list for brainstorming.

Here we turn to keyword clustering technique, that is grouping key phrases by meaning. I described the technique in much detail here.

Serpstat is a great tool to create a keyword dashboard:

Serpstat clustering

Serpstat identifies related keywords by looking at Google SERPs for each query and identifying those queries that trigger overlapping URLs.

You can choose between soft and hard clustering to determine how closely related terms should be within one group. And you can change the relevancy setting any time after your cluster is created.

Serpstat relevancy settings

To get into more detail about how the tool works, read this article describing their method.

Once I create my cluster breaking my keyword lists into actual article topics, I always run the tool called Text Optimizer that extracts related terms from Google search snippets and allows you to build more varied and comprehensive content:

Text Optimizer content dashboard

You can create a nice PDF export of this dashboard and send to your content researcher or writer. This tool works wonders for improving content quality.

Content Brainstorming Dashboard #2: Aggregate and Filter Your Sources

We all have some individual sources of inspiration. The most well-known are:

1. Buzzfeed

Find the hottest trending stories that are being shared all over the social networking spectrum here. They have several ways of finding content. The first is seeing the most popular on the front page. Then you can go by category, like Politics, Tech, Lifestyle, Sports, Animals, What’s Hot and More. Above that are more specific items, under LOL, WIN, OMG, Cute, Geeks, Trashy, FAIL and WTF.

2. Tech Meme

Known as the first to often catch any technology related news, especially where it is trending, Tech Meme is one of the most popular sites that is still rarely talked about. You can see top news or what is newly released. The format is really simple, and they have a search bar if you find you need something specific. One useful element is a ranked list of their top sources, which is worth checking out.

3. Lifehacker, MakeUseOf and Digital Inspiration

I am a tool gal, so it’s quite natural that I love tracking the above sites for new tool reviews and round-ups. There are other numerous options here but I have found the above three quite exhaustive.

4. Visual.ly

If there’s anything hot under the sun, chances are, it’s been already “infographed”. Tracking new infographics is one of the best ways to come up with cool content ideas (especially round-ups). Besides, infographics are created for re-publishing, so re-using them is not only legit but highly encouraged.

Again, quite a few options here, but I like Visual.ly because they have a very handy RSS feed that displays an infograph thumbnail and short description.

Obviously, you can have your own sources depending on your niche. The above ones were picked because they are more or less niche-less, so writers in any vertical may find them useful.

So now that we have determined the sources, let’s aggregate them!

Buzzsumo has a great feature called “Trending” that delivers you daily updates from your chosen categories but you can also set up your own dashboard inside it by simply listing your favorite domains:

Buzzsumo Trending

Buzzsumo will also generate some additional info for each story inside your dashboard (virality, social media spread, etc.) making it much easier to monitor.

Content Brainstorming Dashboard #3: Trend Tracking

Trend tracking is a must if you are into content marketing.

The Internet is a whirlpool of information. Graphs, memes, articles, whole books, movies and albums, shopping carts, pictures, personal comments list goes on and on. Most of the stuff on the web you will never see, much less use. It is constantly updated and often what is posted will become obsolete within days, even hours.

There is just too much to shift through, and blind searches aren’t helpful. Endless supplies of topics will leave random search attempts for the sake of finding trends an empty endeavor.

Having a list of trend tracking tools by hand when you are stuck will improve your content brainstorming productivity. When trying to come up with a good post idea, try visiting one of these trend tracking dashboards:

  1. Google TrendsOne of the most well-known and used sites for this purpose, Google Trends gives you an easy to understand look at what is hot right now. They are all based on what is being searched for most at the moment through the engine. When you select one of the search terms, it takes you to a collection of stories on the topic. You can also see more terms, and search out anything else.
  2. TrendsmapSometimes what you need to brainstorm is simply to switch to a completely new layout. Want to know what is being posted on Twitter based on the location of the tweeter? This is a real-time map that takes trending topics and shows them based on where it is most commonly being shared. You can see what is being talked about all over the world.
  3. Reddit – The ultimate source of user-generated discussions, both sad and funny, Reddit is a must when it comes to being aware what is going on around the web.

You can use Buzzsumo to aggregate your favorite sources. You can also use this spreadsheet: The brainstorming spreadsheet aggregates search results from the following sources:

  • Google News;
  • Reddit (Top)
  • YouTube (Top rated)
  • Twitter Trending
  • Data.gov, and more.

This one is already created. You don’t need to do anything except for:

  • Copying it;
  • Searching your copy for your keyword;
  • Scanning through results for interesting ideas.

Content dashboard spreadsheet

You are free to hide any of the columns if you want less (depends on your niche). Or you can edit your sources.

Conclusion

Traditionally we think that the creative process is counter-productive. You need time to brainstorm. In today’s world most of us don’t have time at all but we brainstorm a lot. How do you increase your brainstorming creativity? Please share your ideas in the comments!

The Last Guide to Instagram Hashtags You’ll Ever Need

http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/WordStreamBlog/~3/zzaJsZasSw0/instagram-hashtags

If you told me ten years ago that I would be writing a guide on hashtagging, I would most likely have laughed in your face. (Sorry!). To think of how far the hashtagging world has come in the last few years is mesmerizing… I can still remember when I first came across the foreign concept of “hashtags.” It must have been around 2010, and back then I thought hashtags were just a cheeky little gimmick. My friends and I started speaking in hashtags to make fun of the hashtag world. #Sports #Dominoes #MoreWinePlease

Instagram post of a picnic with wine

Okay, maybe #MoreWinePlease is still fair game.

Fast forward to today and the hashtag playing field has changed dramatically. I am now keenly aware of how powerful and critical hashtags are for the social media strategies of marketers in every industry.

If you’re still laughing at Instagrammers with strings of #’s in the comments or just unclear on how these little tags work, you came to the right place: I’m going to share everything you’ll ever need to know about using hashtags on Instagram. In this comprehensive guide to hashtagging on Instagram, you’ll learn:

  • What a hashtag is.
  • Why you need hashtags on Instagram.
  • How to make the most of your #hashtagging.
  • Which 20 Instagram hashtags are most popular.

Let’s get started!

What is a hashtag, anyway?

The hashtag, or pound, symbol (#) itself had been used in various ways around the web before August of 2007. Then, Chris Messina, a product designer from Silicon Valley, brought the hashtag to Twitter and was credited as the founder of the social media hashtag.

“He got the idea of using a hashtag from Internet chat rooms that had a pound symbol in front of them,” says Erin Black from CNBC. “He decided to pitch the idea to Twitter, but the company told him it was ‘nerdy’ and that it would never catch on.”

Jokes on them, right?

hashtag tweet from Chris Messina

Luckily, Messina was persistent, and the hashtag did catch on in a mighty powerful way. Messina was able to get his contacts to use hashtags in their tweets, and finally in 2009, Twitter added a feature that allowed users to search for hashtags. #PrettyCool!

You need hashtags in every Instagram post: Here’s why

So why are hashtags so critical to use in your Instagram marketing campaigns? Well, Instagram posts that use hashtags gain a 12.6% increase in engagement compared those without.

“Not only do hashtags help social media users organize and categorize content, but they’re also one of the driving forces behind some of today’s best marketing campaigns,” says Maddy Osman on Sprout Social.

Hashtagging is so effective because it helps categorize similar content and make it even more discoverable, which is likely why hashtagged posts get so much more engagement than those without.

“When used strategically, hashtags can provide you with a ton of benefits,” says Olivia Ryan. “They can be used to get your content in front of a bigger audience, raise awareness about your brand, target a very specific group of people, boost your SEO, and use hot trends and topics to your advantage.”

So what are you waiting for? If you want your audience to see your Instagram content, it’s time to up your Instagram #hashtag game!

8 ways to become an Instagram hashtag pro

1. Do your hashtag research

First and foremost, it is important to realize that the art of hashtagging is much more than simply adding the hash sign in front of words you think of. To use hashtags in your Instagram content in a meaningful and effective way you need to do your research. So where to start? Here are a few ideas…

  • Use online tools: There are tons of tools out there—like RiteTag, ExportTweet, and Hashtagify—that will give you data on what hashtags are popular.
  • Start searching: Type hashtag ideas into the Instagram search bar and see what autofills.
  • Check your competitors: See what your competition is doing, as well as brands and account that your target audience is likely following. Getting inspiration from other accounts can be super helpful to gain an understanding of what hashtags are trending (more on this in tip #3!).

The key to selecting good hashtags is to ensure they are on target with your target audience’s interests, and popular but not overly popular—you don’t want to get lost in the clutter. You know the kid in school who wasn’t considered “popular,” but was well-liked and known amongst many groups? You want that fall into a similar arena with your hashtag game.

“We’ve noticed that the more niche the topic, the more conversations users are having around it, so it pays off to really hone in on a topic or theme,” says Benjamin Chacon from Later.

2. Don’t over hashtag

While it might be tempting to hashtag your little heart away on each post, it isn’t good to go overboard on hashtags. When it comes to having more of an impact with your hashtag game, it can actually pay off more to be picky. In fact, research has found that the optimal number of hashtags per post is 11.

While Instagram allows you to use up to 30 hashtags per post, your time is better spent researching and using a handful of super effective hashtags rather than stockpiling a ton of tags per post.

Hashtags and burgers: better in moderation.

“Tossing 30 hashtags on a post only does so much-especially for businesses,” says Alex York from Sprout Social. It gets to #overkill pretty quickly. And if your brand isn’t focusing on the right questions or goals, all of this seems a bit worthless to invest your valuable marketing time.”

3. Get inspired by other Instagrammers in your industry

There is absolutely nothing wrong with spying on your competition from time to time. In fact, when it comes to hashtagging this can be a super useful investigative activity. Joining in on trendy industry topic hashtags and finding niche industry-related tags that your audience is likely following can be insanely beneficial for upping your hashtag game.

Take this food blogger, Restoring Radiance, for example. Below, you can see that she posted a picture of her yogurt, and rather than using simple hashtags, like #yogurt or #breakfast, she used many hashtags mentioning other brands that her target audience is likely following like #f52grams and #foodgawker.

Instagram hashtag post with yogurt and granola

Why not take a page from her book and use some popular industry hashtags in your next Instagram post?

4. Create your own hashtag campaigns

The cool thing about hashtagging is that you aren’t restricted to using other hashtags that have already been used. You can get creative and build a campaign around your very own branded hashtag. This can take your brand to an entirely new level if done in a creative and engaging way.

Take the unforgettable #IceBucketChallenge. The marketing team for the ALS Association was able to raise awareness with this hashtag campaign, but they also raised a substantial amount of money ($115 million to be exact!). Think about how you can do something similar by getting your followers to WANT to use your hashtag, which will help spread brand awareness about your business to other Instagrammers.

5. Keep your hashtags consistent—but not too consistent

As discussed above, it is important to research your hashtags for each post and ensure you aren’t using hashtags that are overly popular. If you do, your posts are likely to get lost in the sea of other hashtagged post. But should you be using a new set of five to 10 hashtags for every single post you compose?

The answer is no. There is absolutely nothing wrong with re-using the same well-researched, highly targeted hashtags if those are what appeal to your audience. In fact, you should keep a note handy so you can easy copy and paste your commonly used hashtags into new posts. However, spicing things up a bit is also encouraged. For example, use the same five or so on-brand hashtags, but add in a few new ones that are even more relevant to the photograph or video you are sharing. Relevancy is critical when it comes to hashtag use: If someone is exploring a hashtag and your super irrelevant post pops up, it could make the entire brand look un-reputable.

6. Build a giveaway around a branded hashtag

Everyone loves free stuff. This is just simple human nature. I find myself entering Instagram giveaways on the daily to win cookbooks of chefs and bakers I follow. Often, these giveaways are quite simple to enter. The brand will post about giving away a copy of whichever cookbook and ask you to tag a friend in the comments to enter. While this is a super easy and doable way to give something away, why not take it a step further with a branded hashtag?

Take the example below from Talalla Retreat, a beach-front resort that emphasizes yoga. Rather than just having users like and tag someone in the comments, their contest required folks to post a picture with the hashtag #WINTalalla. What I love about this type of giveaway is that it is still easy to enter, but it’s going to get so many more eyes on your brand since those entering have to share a photo to their entire followers list while using the branded hashtag.

7. Use hashtagging to connect

Another wonderful thing about hashtags is that they are a great way to connect with others and build a community. Keeping an eye on trending hashtags can help you discover new partners and engage those who are in your target market. Building an Instagram marketing campaign around a hashtag can also be a super useful way to partner up with a related brand. This will help you gain even more exposure, since this partner brand will be posting about your company to their entire audience.

Here is a great example from Lululemon UK and Stava, which partnered to run a fun challenge encouraging followers to complete a 40-80K run and tag their Instagram posts #4080challenge.

Lululemon post with sponsored hashtags

Not only does this type of hashtag campaign get both audiences followers involved, but it also grows the brand awareness for each company with exposure to an even larger audience. Just check out how many people took part in this hashtag challenge.

8. Create a catchy brand hashtag to get your customers involved

Hashtags don’t always have to be short-lived contests or campaigns. In fact, some of the most successful branded hashtags are the ones that apply to any post. Take the hashtag created by the sneaker company, allbirds. Rather than using generic hashtags on every post, they use one very creative and catchy hashtag #weareallbirds.

catchy brand hashtag example, allbirds

Using a single branded hashtag that’s catchy and clever is a great way of keeping things consistent. It’s also a great way to building a hashtag that happy customers will be excited to use to share their new kicks!

The 20 Most Popular Instagram Hashtags

I know, I know: This entire post I’ve been discouraging you from using the most “popular” hashtags. Why? Standing out in a crowded space can make you unnoticeable. So instead of focusing on the popular tags, the best way to achieve hashtag success is to find niche hashtags that are only popular among your very selective target audience.

So why are we going over the most popular Instagram hashtags now? Well, just because I’m discouraging you from using these exact hashtags below does not mean you cannot draw inspiration from them. For instance, take #love. Why not make a hashtag about #love that incorporates your brand. #WordstreamLove sounds pretty catchy to me!

Or let’s take #instagood, for example. If you run a new restaurant, then this hashtag could not make more sense—so why not try it with a hint of localization to show your tasty food around your city? Just take a look at the #instagood hashtag vs. #instagoodboston. The #instagood has a whopping 979,097,201 POSTS.

popular #instagood hashtag

But the #instagoodboston hashtag has just 389 posts that are all food/restaurant related. Clearly, people following #instagoodboston are passionate about trying new restaurants in their city!

local hashtag options #instagoodboston

Without further ado, here are the 20 most popular Instagram hashtags:

  1. #love
  2. #instagood
  3. #me
  4. #tbt
  5. #cute
  6. #follow
  7. #followme
  8. #photooftheday
  9. #happy
  10. #tagforlikes
  11. #beautiful
  12. #self
  13. #girl
  14. #picoftheday
  15. #like4like
  16. #smile
  17. #friends
  18. #fun
  19. #like
  20. #fashion

Remember, the best way to use these hashtags is for inspiration—not for hashtag stuffing.

The Complete Beginner’s Guide to Quora Promoted Answers

http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/WordStreamBlog/~3/xV7HHFB31lc/quora-promoted-answers

Back in October 2018, Quora Ads announced three new betas were going to be added to the platform: CPM bidding, Auction Insights, and Promoted Answers. Promoted Answers caught my eye because I loved the mix of organic and paid marketing. If you or other members of your team have crafted amazing content that could help out a lot of people, you can now promote your awesome content to a wider audience on Quora. Almost think of it as the Quora Ads version of a boosted post. Also, you may be able to rely on people outside your company to write the answers for you. (Teaser alert! I’ll explain this very soon).

In this guide, I’ll show you what Promoted Answers are and how you can use them to increase brand awareness and build authority in your industry.

What are Promoted Answers?

I am not going to say Quora is just a Q&A site, but if I had to give a simple explanation of what Quora is, I’d say that Q&A is the main bulk of the site’s content.

With the Promoted Answers ad type, advertisers now have the opportunity to push a question to the top of the pagewhich will, of course, also push your answer to the top of the page, too. Users can start reading the answer, then click a “more” link to read your entire answer if they choose.

Quora Promoted Answers

Image via Quora

When Quora announced this new feature was out of beta and ready for everyone, it recommended the kind of answers that advertisers should boost: “Choose high quality answers that adhere to our content policy guidelines.” With this new format, your answers are more than just answers. They are now treated as a landing page if the quality of the content is high enough, and to get the most out of your Promoted Answers, you want top-notch quality (more on this in a minute).

If you already know you have great answers you would like to promote, let’s now go through the setup, which is going to be a lot easier than you think.

How to set up your Promoted Answers campaign

Advertisers can start creating a campaign and ad set like they normally do. You can still choose to select a campaign to push conversions, traffic, or awareness. (Note: App install objectives are not an option, but that’s an obvious reason why.) Once we get to the ad set level, the targeting options advertisers have for Promoted Answers are the same for any other type of ad set you may want to create. (Here is a list of the targeting options on Quora Ads if you are new to the platform).

The only component of this type of campaign that is truly different is the ad creative, and advertisers don’t have to put in much effort to create a Promoted Answer.

After you select the “Promote an Answer” ad format, and enter your business name, you’ll have to find the URL for your answer. The key part right there is answer URL. Not question URL. So what’s the difference?

Promoted Answer example

To find the answer URL, go to the page where your answer is. Underneath your answer, you’ll see a date of when that question was answered. Well, that date is clickable. Click on it, and a new window tab will open. This new page will only have your answer, and the URL for this new tab is what you’ll need to enter into your ad creation.

Wasn’t there a recent update to Promoted Answers?

Why, yes there was, astute PPC marketer! On March 21, 2019, Quora announced an easier way to promote answers without ever having to go within the ads interface. If you are looking at certain answers you wrote within the Quora interface, and you can now click on the ellipsis icon “…” and select “Promote” to begin setting up a new Promoted Answers campaign.

Now, you may be thinking, “Can I only do this for the answers I write?” Great question! And the answer to that one is no! You can promote any answer on Quora: It doesn’t have to be your own. Why is this an option? If your company sets up the ad account, but your employees (most likely the real knowledge experts in the field) are answering the questions, it’s still beneficial for your brand to make sure the people representing you are getting top exposure. I’m also of the personal belief that an answer is more believable coming from a person instead of a company account. Again, that is just my personal belief, but you can test it for yourself.

How to promote great answers

Like I mentioned earlier, you don’t want to promote just any old answer: You want to promote the best answer possible to promote brand awareness or drive conversions. But how can you promote great answers? In my opinion it all depends on a few key things:

  •  The quality of the answer
  • What are your current customers looking for
  • What type of traffic can you get from your questions
  • Who has the authority to write the answer.

Don’t worrythis isn’t as complicated as it seems. Let me show you a few scenarios where different types of answers could be worthwhile to promote.

Showcase authority

DuckDuckGo CEO's Promoted Answer

How awesome is this? The CEO and Founder of DuckDuckGo is answering questions about his own product. There is probably no one better to answer questions about DuckDuckGo than the CEO and Founder of DuckDuckGo. If your brand name is a topic and you can see several people asking questions about your brand (more common on Quora than you think), then try and get answers posted from high authorities in your company.

Let me flip the scenario around to talk about a different strategy. Maybe you have a competitor that has bigger brand recognition than you. And maybe that brand has a topic on Quora that gets a good amount of questions and traffic. You can create a campaign targeting the Topics or Interests of your competitors, then promote an answer to them to showcase why your brand could be the better choice. Depending on what questions and answers are out there, this could be a good tactic to use for getting in front of the right audience and trying to win over new customers.

Bring in the experts

expert answers

I’ve had many types of clients in all different types of industries. I consider myself a PPC expert. However, I will never consider myself the expert in every industry my clients work in. So if my client worked in electronic engineering, and I saw a question on Quora asking, “What is this digital spike filter called,” I couldn’t answer that question. Ever. But you know who could? An engineer who actually does the work. These could be great answers to promote if you have a staff on hand who can answer the harder, more in-depth technical questions your audience could be asking.

This example I used is a very specific one, but this strategy can be used for almost any industry out there. There are a variety of ways different levels of employees from your company can help potential customers on the Quora platform. We already saw how having an authority figure like a CEO can be a good influence. Your product developers can help answer specific questions about what you offer that your marketing or content team may not be able to answer as well. What about your sales team? What questions do they typically get from prospects or qualified leads? Even if your sales team doesn’t want to answer questions on Quora, they are still a valuable asset to find the right questions to answer. Remember, you can use the other teams in your company to be the industry experts and build more authority for your company.

Let your fans speak for you

organic Quora Promoted Answer example

Sometimes people like to hear answers from users like them and not from the brand. The believability can be higher when users see organic answers from other people, and it doesn’t feel like brands aren’t writing answers saying they’re the best. So let your current customers speak for you. If fans are writing great answers touting your products, you can promote these organic answers to help influence new users to purchase your product.

I can’t say there is one sure route to go in choosing the best answer to promote. You’ll have to decide the best strategy for yourself. It will all depend on what industry your company or client is in. But you’ll always want to consider if the goal of your campaign is to build awareness or try and push more conversions. And hopefully these few examples will give you some new ideas to test in your Promoted Answers campaigns.

Start promoting your great content

The answers your company puts on Quora could be written by the PPC team, your organic team, your social team, or maybe a valuable member in the company’s industry. If you have valuable content that can help a lot of your potential customers, start promoting those answers. If you are spending the time to write the content, do whatever you can to make sure it reaches as many of the right users as possible whether the questions get a lot of traffic or not. Test out this new ad format and boost your brand perception on Quora.

We found out the Nootropics industry (smart drugs for brain function) was worth over $1 trillion too.

And Diabetes.org report that over $322 billion is spent in America on it every year.

Meaning there’s a lot of money around for the taking, if you’re willing to help these people get fit and healthy.

How to Target Your Best Audience with Reddit Advertising

There’s a pretty simple reason why you’d want to advertise on Reddit: It’s one of the most visited websites in the world.

With that much traffic, you need to be able to target your ideal audience. Advertisers have a handful of ways to use the high-traffic platform to get in front of a target audience or focus on building their brand in a new way. While there may not be a ton of targeting options in Reddit, advertisers will find a mix of new and familiar options to create effective marketing campaigns. Let’s run through them.

Location targeting

Reddit location targeting

Reddit’s main form of location targeting is by country. Advertisers in the United States can also narrow down the targeting to state and city level if need be. These same rules apply to the locations to exclude.

You should know that Reddit is like every other ad platform we are familiar with: If you do not select a location to target, your ads will be eligible to show worldwide, depending on what other targeting options you select.

Interest targeting

Reddit interest targeting

This one is pretty straightforward: Advertisers can target users who have recently interacted with certain categories of content. The important part of that last sentence is “recently interacted.” We’re not targeting users who are currently looking at these interests. This key phrase makes this targeting option pretty broad. Here is a list of the current Interests that Reddit advertisers can target:

Animals & Pets

  • Animals
  • Pets

Art & Design

  • Arts & Crafts
  • Design
  • Fine Art Photography
  • Interior & Landscape
  • Visuals

  • Car Culture
  • Auto Type
  • Auto Repair

  • Virtual Reality
  • Programming

Television

  • Animation
  • Comedy
  • Drama
  • Reality
  • Science Fiction
  • Cordcutters

Travel

  • Travel Locations
  • Lifestyle

This is an exhaustive list, but just looking at it proves again how broad this targeting option is. Targeting “Travel Locations,” for instance, doesn’t let you to specify which travel locations—if you’re only after customers for your resort in Florida, you don’t want your ads to appear on pages about Mediterranean cruises or South American vacations. Interest targeting doesn’t allow advertisers to get that specific.

If you need to find a deeper level of targeting in Reddit, let’s move on to the next option.

Subreddit targeting

Subreddits are forum categories in the platform dedicated to specific topics or categories. Advertisers have the option to target users who either have recently interacted with certain subreddits or are currently subscribed to a subreddit. It’s pretty easy to search for subreddits related to your business to see if any options show up by searching under the “Target Specific Communities” option.

subreddit targeting

If you’re not finding your desired Subreddit populating in the campaign options, it means there isn’t enough volume for that Subreddit to be eligible for targeting.

Device targeting

By default, your Reddit ad groups are going to target all devices. Advertisers do, however, have the option to target either desktop only or mobile only if they choose.

Reddit device targeting

This will give you the option to break out your campaigns or ad groups by device if you want to better control performance. If you are planning to run a campaign with the App Installs objective, however, you will only be able to target mobile users which should be any surprise to you.

Time of day targeting

Reddit advertisers can select which hours of the day within the days of the week their ads can be shown. All you have to do is click and drag to highlight a block of consistent hours, or you can click any square one-by-one to choose random sets of hours.

Reddit time of day targeting

Google Ads’ ad scheduling has the time zone set to whatever you chose when creating your account. Reddit Advertising is different. The times you select will show your ads based on the ad viewer’s time zone. Keep that in mind when selecting your schedule.

Research for yourself

Reddit isn’t going to work for every brand out there. But with that much traffic, it’s worth trying. You’re going to have to dig into the targeting options yourself to see if your target audience could potentially be on the platform. The good news is that many of the targeting options are going to be familiar to an experienced PPC marketer. Just remember the subtle differences in how the targeting options work for Reddit so your campaigns can launch with the best foot forward.
